Furniture Scuffs and Marks
When you shift into a new home, you could well find scuffs and blemishes on the walls of the building. These most likely come from furniture positioned too close to the wall when the previous owners lived there. But, of course, this happens to you too, when you move furniture around. These marks are annoying, but they’re often not too tough to deal with. In most circumstances, a clean sponge will remove spots from the wall. If that doesn’t work, they can be painted or wallpapered over.
Door Holes
What are door holes? These holes occur in the drywall from door handles, as the door is opened too hard. The handles leave behind a dent or hole in the wall, damaging it. These are aggravating and challenging to avoid in some homes. The obvious answer is to be cautious when opening doors, but that’s not always possible.
The drywall services required to fix the holes include:
- Using joint compound to patch over it
- Sanding it the subsequent day
- Blending the repair in with the remainder of the wall by painting over it
Water Damage
Water damage comes from several places, such as leaking roofs or damaged plumbing. If you start to see discoloured drywall, you’ve got to move fast to find the leak and stop it. The longer it goes on, the worse the damage will be. So focus on getting the leak fixed before worrying about the drywall to ensure it won’t happen again. Once the leak is fixed, you can get the water-damaged drywall fixed. This is essential, as the damage looks terrible and is now weakening your drywall, leaving it vulnerable to further damage. The best course of action is to have that section of drywall completely replaced, so there will be no signs of wear.
Tile Removal Damage
Tiles look amazing when they’re newly applied to your walls, but ultimately, you will want to replace them to revamp the look of your kitchen or bathroom. However, they will take parts of the drywall if removed improperly. This leaves your walls unstable and incapable of taking new tiles until you fix them. As with most things, prevention is better than cure. Remove the tiles from the wall using tools that break them off safely. You can also utilise a wide-blade putty knife. It’s good to ask at your local hardware supply before you start breaking tiles off to guarantee that you look after the wall behind them. Our drywall services can fix the issue thanks to tile removal if you already have a broken wall. Finally, you can apply a premixed drywall compound to the area, allowing it to dry, then smoothing and sanding it down.
Nail Holes
These are very common in drywall, as homeowners hang pictures and other items on their walls. They’re fine for as long as the image is in place, but when it’s taken down and moved elsewhere? You’re left with an unappealing hole in the wall where the nail used to be. These holes are annoying, but they’re easily fixed with the right drywall services. So again, a premixed drywall combination is the best option here.
- Fill the holes with the solution, then let it dry and sand it down to be flush with the wall.
- You’ll then have to paint over the spot to blend it with the rest of the wall.
Termite Damage
Termites are a nightmare if you don’t notice them in time. They eat through drywall, causing all kinds of problems. These include:
- Pinholes in your walls
- Hollow sounding walls when you knock on them
- Paint peeling from the walls
- Crumbling baseboards
Remove the baseboard if needed, and take out the damaged drywall part. You’ll need to completely replace that section to be as solid and sturdy as before the infestation.
Cracks
You should never ignore any cracks in your drywall. They look small now, but they’ll soon spread and cause you serious problems. They can come about from several different issues with your home. In some situations, they’ll have started because the foundations are shifting. In others, there may be a water leak someplace in your home. If you have cracks, find the reason for the issue first. Once found, you can repair the crack with a joint compound.
